  1. Hey man, I’ve been really digging your blog so far and the info has been helpful… but… dude, please tell me there’s going to be an edit where you expand on these four points.

Two hours to craft this post? Honestly?

Or is this one of those “Know when to break the rules”-things? Ha.

Either way, keep up the good work.

  2. Martyn Chamberlin says:

    Um yeah uh…

    not quite two hours lol

Actually, I kept this post ridiculously short to get stalkers like you out of the woods. :) Don’t worry, next post is 500+ words again.

And yes, I’m doing the first 3 steps right now. As the journey continues, I’ll expand.

  3. Rick Harp says:

Please define and/or give examples of blog-related/blog-derived “products.” ;)

    stalkingly yours,

    Rick

    • Martyn says:

      Blog-related products? Tons of ideas!

Premium WordPress themes, premium plugins, premium solutions for all sorts of things. Including stuff we’re currently working on. :)

Don’t worry, I’ll get more specific in future posts. I kept this one short to get attention. Guess it worked.

    Brilliant!

I came to this conclusion a while back and am working on the ‘product’ bit. I’ve run a blog for two years, giving out good destination info. Info alone won’t make you money – a few corporate sponsors in the off-ing, some ads down the side, but unless you’re pretty near A List blogger status it’s tough; real tough in an online world used to the ‘freemium model’ to make cash. I am getting a book off the ground based on the blog entries and stunning photography that accompanies them. It’s got funding, I am writing it, and next step selling it – online and elsewhere. The corporates I’ve approached to pre-sell copies to are far happier talking sponsoring a tangible product than the blog. Knowledge economy it may be, but people like having a product in their hands! I am going that route. Thanks for this short, sharp reminder – love it!

    • Martyn says:

Hey Liz thanks for your input here.

Yep, blogs are great, but you’re right – solid products are what gets people excited. Go for it!

  5. Michael says:

    Vague, even more than me.

  6. Rison Simon says:

Hi, you spend two hours on this? :) I think you broke the first rule of twohourblogger. This reminds me of a post by Daniel on Dailyblogtips.com. His post consisted of just on sentence. “Just get to the point”. I think you just did that.

  7. Jon says:

Hey Martyn actually I liked the post. If any of us have spent time in the blogosphere we know people will back this type of article up later on. I kinda had a feeling you’d take a different approach based on the title alone. As long as we don’t over-use a technique like this we’re good!

The funny thing is your outline is right on; answering the “which products, what kind of blog, and how to sell” questions are all separate blog posts on their own.

I look forward to you expanding on these.

    Jon

    • Martyn Chamberlin says:

Hey Jon, glad you liked it. Short posts are fun, but you’re right – you can’t do them too often! ;)
