The Chief Reason You Should Ever Use the Internet

At Blog World in LA last week, I got to hear Adam Baker from Man vs Debt speak about why your blog is not your business. He imaged all the social media platforms and called them time wasters. To paraphrase, “They’re great for growing your blog, but terrible for your business. They suck time.”

I’m not sure it was a popular message, but it complemented Shani Higgins’ speech. As Technorati’s CEO, she has her thumb on the blogosphere’s health. But while her statistics were fascinating, the hilarious takeaway was that her company hasn’t updated its own blog in literally months.

Sure, you lose the small-town atmosphere. You lose the peaceful sound of the crickets at night and the shocking sensation of earning a brand-new subscriber.

Bummer.
