This article is going to focus on the importance of the right mindset, because I truly believe this is the main reason most online businesses fail. If you don’t commit, you will never be successful. There is no such thing as half starting. You need to make sure you are all in, no turning back.
There are two components that must happen:
- You have to see someone else do it.
- You have to tell yourself that you can do it too.
Lots of people see my online business success and ask me how to start their own online business. I usually ask how much time they have because this is not an easy question to answer. Once I go through the basics with them, I see their eyes light up when they realize how much work it’s going to be. They say things like “I need to look into that” or “Maybe I will release a product and see what happens.” By doing this, they are setting themselves up to fail. It’s not surprising when I hear later that they never started or tried and quit.
Before starting an online business, ask yourself what your main goal is. Saying “I want to make money online” isn’t enough. I’m talking about a solid measurable objective. Maybe you want to make an extra $1,000 per month. Or maybe you want to make an extra $10,000 per month. Whatever that goal is, write it down.
Now we need to do some math to figure out how to get there. If your goal is to make an extra $1,000 per month, how can you get there? How many products would you have to sell? Most of my income comes from selling physical products online, so I will use that as an example. For me, the average is $15 of profit per unit, so let’s do the math.
$1,000 per month goal / $15 profit per unit = about 67 units per month sold
Let’s break that down even further.
67 units per month / 30 days per month = about 3 units per day sold
Think about that for a second. You would only have to sell 3 units per day at $15 profit each to make an extra $1,000 per month ($12,000 annually). This is easily achievable with a powerful platform like Amazon or even your own website with the proper advertising.
So why are most people giving up before they even really start? It’s because they don’t know what they want, therefore, they don’t get what they want. Couple that with all the bad information out there and you will easily see why many people are lost.
We have all seen screen shots of high sales numbers and people doing better than us, but we shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to them. Focus on yourself and what you are trying to achieve. It’s not like these people became overnight successes.
Success requires persistent action. Get a few things done each day to move yourself toward your goal. Once you sell $1,000 per month, move the goal up to $10,000 per month. It’s so much easier to keep going once you see little successes along the way.
Don’t be closed minded and concentrate on personal development. If someone has a course that can teach me something new, I want the details. If I am guaranteed success on auto pilot for a one-time payment of $997, I’m simply not interested.
There is no easy way for anybody to make a significant amount of money. Only hard work, dedication, the right mindset and the right information will propel you to the success you desire. Anything that sounds too good to be true usually is, but does that mean all online courses are scams? Absolutely not. I have experienced great success with many of them. Make sure the instructors are honest about how much work is required to reach success, because that is the biggest indicator of a scam versus a real course.
